Abstract
The review is in 3 sections, devoted to chloroform, ether, and cyclopropane. Each deals with the effects upon the heart of the anesthetic both alone and in conjunction with sympa-thomimetic drugs. The effects considered are the direct action upon the origin, spread, and rhythm of the heart beat, and the indirect action upon cardiac brain centers, reflexes originating in the carotid sinus and aortic arch, and the secretion of adrenalin. The author presents a coherent picture as far as is possible, rather than a conglomeration of discrete facts. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
