Abstract
Peacock and Treitel (1969) in their excellent discussion of predictive deconvolution opened up once again a matter which is worthy of some attention: how do the Backus 2- and 3-point operators (Backus, 1959) relate to other dereverberation operators? This note attempts to clarify such relationships. The most general two‐layer ringing system requires a 4-point operator (Koehler, 1964) for complete dereverberation. More complex layered systems correspondingly would require dereverberation operators with greater numbers of terms; however, the approach presented here again would be of value in putting them into a general context. Keywords
