Abstract
Important considerations when designing a V-ribbed belt drive for maximum power transmission and service life are discussed. Owing to different pulley diameters and wear of the belt, the wedge angle of the belt changes and the pressure distribution between belt and pulley differs. In this paper a method for calculating the wedge angle of the belt as a function of curvature is presented. Calculations show that the pressure distribution depends strongly on pulley diameter. Moreover, the pressure distribution between the belt and the pulley is shown to affect the torque capacity in a drive to a large extent. Keywords
