Abstract
Since Al–Si and Al–Si–Mg alloys represent a significant group of alloys of aluminium, the quality of their analyses is of technical and industrial importance. An important basis for correct analysis is a high quality of the standard samples used. Therefore the conformity of the certified concentrations of 29 standard samples from five different manufacturers were tested. All measurements were performed using spark ablation as the sample introduction device for inductively coupled plasma atomic spectrometry and spark emission spectrometry for 13 elements in concentration ranges from trace amounts up to the main alloying constituents. With the exception of two samples from the same supplier all certified concentrations correlated with the concentrations found with correlation coefficients in the range 0.99–1.00, independent of the origin of the standard sample and the method used.
