Abstract
Short description of morphological characters along with photographs of pods were given for M. sauvagei R. Negre, M. aschersoniana Urb., M. lanigera Winkl. et B. Fedtsch., M. daghestanica Rupr. and M. pironae Vis. Their natural distribution areas were mentioned and their probable value as introductions as forage plants indicated. Chromosome number, 2n, in all above species was 16. Chromosome length was not conspicuously variable; the shortest 2.1 to 2.8 [mu] was in M. sauvagei, the longest, 3.2 to 4.0 [mu], in M. pironae. Most chromosomes were curved or V-shaped, indicating median or sub-median centromeres. A few wedge-shaped chromosomes in M. aschersoniana suggest sub-terminal centromere attachments.
