Histology of the Pituitary, Testis, and Adrenal in Relation to Reproduction in the Bull

Abstract
Histological studies of the pituitary, testis, and adrenal of 2 normal and 11 low fertility bulls indicate that at least 3 different syndromes are associated with lowered fertility. The 1st syndrome is characterized by lack of libido and secondary sex characters. The 2d syndrome is characterized by normal libido and normal secondary sex characters. The concentration of spermatozoa is decreased, the percentage of abnormal spermatozoa is high, the concentration of fructose in the semen is normal and the motility is low. The 3d syndrome is characterized by a basophilism of the pituitary accompanied by a decrease in the eosinophilic cells. Hyperplasia or fascicular tumors of the adrenal gland accompany this condition in the pituitary.
