Abstract
Numerical experiments have been performed with use of a fairly realistic model for polyethylene which has enabled the effects of anharmonicity, temperature, and positional disorder on the thermal conductivity to be investigated. It has been shown that the classical conductivity may be substantially increased by both increasing the strength of the anharmonic forces and by decreasing the chain temperature. Although the conductivity of individual chains is found to be high, realistic values for the conductivity of a bulk material may be understood provided that due account is taken of the polymer conformation and interchain coupling. Keywords
