Abstract
A solid superacid, which was prepared by exposing Zr(OH)4 to 0.5 mol dm–3 H2SO4 followed by calcining in air at 650 °C, was catalytically active in the acylation of toluene with acetic and benzoic acids in a heterogeneous system; this catalyst was also active for the reaction using ethyl and methyl esters as the acylating reagent. Keywords
