Abstract
There is currently considerable interest in the measurement of line tension. A method has been proposed involving capillary condensation of vapour around the contact (or near contact) of a solid sphere and a flat plate of the same material. This configuration is locally equivalent to that used in the conventional surface force apparatus (SFA), which employs (coated) mica surfaces that are molecularly smooth. Keywords
