Abstract
A simple and rapid method for the detection of trace amounts of hydroxamic acids is presented. It consists in extraction of the coloured complex formed by the reaction of hydroxamic acids (5–30 µg) with vanadium into one drop of isobutyl methyl ketone or a water-immiscible alcohol. The applicability of the method was tested with a variety of hydroxamic acids. It was established that carboxylic acids, their chlorides or esters, and hydroxylamines do not interfere. Keywords
