Abstract
Single crystal films of gold prepared by evaporation of gold on silver (oriented by deposition on mica) have been examined in the electron microscope when mounted in a tilted position. Electron diffraction patterns and dark field electron micrographs reveal a double positioning structure in the films, resulting from the occurrence of two equivalent orientations of silver on mica. The observed structure is discussed in relation to the mechanism of growth of silver on mica, and in relation to the previously reported mechanism of fracture of the films. Keywords
