Abstract
The spectra of a spin probe, 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidone N-oxide, dissolved in the water confined in a porous glass (Vycor) have been measured down to –40 °C. The viscosity of the water in the pores in the glass was five times greater than that of the supercooled bulk water. Water in the pore froze near –24 °C, but some fractions remained unfrozen even at –40 °C. Ice in the pore melted near –10 °C.
