Abstract
In "Fjaeldmark" at Kangerdlugssuak (lat. 68[degree] 30[image]) E. Greenland there were, growing in these open associations, many young plants of all ages with few adults, though these were large and healthy. Approx. half of the young plants died each year. Their growth rate is very slow[long dash]a 2-to-3-fold increase in dry weight each year. The major factor producing this state of affairs is apparently carbohydrate shortage, due to the low temp. of the summer and its short duration.
