Abstract
Metathesis between solutions of silver(I) perchlorate, trifluoroacetate, and tetrafluoroborate in diethyl ether, benzene, and nitromethane and copper(II) chloride or bromide gives copper-containing solutions in all three solvents. Solutions of both copper(II) chloride(strong acid anion) and copper(II)(strong acid anion)2 are formed in most cases. The species present have been investigated by various physical and chemical methods and it is concluded that there is interaction between the copper and the solvent, between the copper and the strong acid anion, and between the copper and chloride if it is present. Keywords
