Abstract
Summary The synthesis of creatine from glycocyamine was studied in the perfused livers of rats fed a stock diet, a diet deficient in vit. E and a diet deficient in vit. E but supplemented with a-tocopheryl acetate. No significant differences were found when creatine synthesis was compared in the 3 groups of animals. It is postulated that the inability of skeletal muscle to utilize creatine, rather than increased synthesis of creatine by the liver, is primarily responsible for the creatinuria observed in vit. E deficiency. Keywords
