Reduction of the Retention of 238Pu Inhaled as the Tributylphosphate Complex in Rats Treated by 3,4,3-LIHOPO

Abstract
The ability of 3,4,3-LIHOPO, used at a dosage of 3 µmol.kg-1 of body weight, has been tested in Sprague-Dawley rats for reducing the retention of plutonium after inhalation of 238Pu-TBP. The comparison was made with DTPA, the reference substance for treatment in man. With low lung deposit (about 7 kBq) it was shown that the 3,4,3-LIHOPO was always more effective than DTPA, even at lower dosage. When the contamination level was higher (25 kBq) DTPA was more effective. In each case, the importance of prompt treatment after contamination is emphasised.
