Settling in Continuous Sedimentation Tanks

Abstract
The widely used empirical relation for the exponential decay of sediment as a function of the overflow rate is given theoretical justification. Using the approach of Camp, who extended quiescent settling theory to particles having a distribution of settling velocities, a model is proposed for turbulent settling. This model is compared with the quiescent model of Camp for data obtained in a laboratory model of a Dorr-Oliver circular clarifier and found superior as turbulence increases.
