Abstract
In order to describe the dielectric response of a dense suspension of polarizable spherical particles to an external low frequency field one has to find an appropriate expansion in density. Beyond the Clausius–Mossotti formula, which only is a mean field ansatz, a cluster expansion (Ref. 1) takes account of the interaction between particles. The one‐particle–dipole polarizability being given, the terms up to second order in density including two‐particle interaction can be calculated. With the help of this enhanced dipole‐residual‐interaction model the dispersion (low frequency response) of colloidal suspensions can be discussed more thoroughly than before. Keywords
