Abstract
The infusion of hypertonic sodium chloride produced a marked increase in urinary calcium excretion in hyperparathyroid patients but not in a control group. After removal of a parathyroid adenoma, the increased calciuria did not occur. There were no differences in urinary sodium, potassium, chloride or phosphorus excretion between control and hyperparathyroid groups. This response may be helpful in making the clinical diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism.
