Abstract
Crude extracts of medicinal plants traditionally used to cure bacterial infections in Tanzania were screened for in-vitro antibacterial activity by the filter-paper disc assay method. Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were used as test organisms. A total of 134 plant extracts were tested, 59 were active against Staphylococcus aureus while only 11 showed inhibition of Escherichia coli. Acacia robusta Burch and Harrisonia abyssinica Oliv. were found to have the highest activity. Keywords
