Abstract
The isolation of an aldoheptose phosphate from the polysaccharide of the somatic antigen of S. flexneri, type 3 is descr. The heptose moiety appears to be the enantiomorph of D-gala-L-mannoheptose, as shown by X-ray diffraction patterns of the hexaacetyl ethyl mercaptals and melting point detns. A colorimetric method, based on the oxidation of aldoses by bromine, for distinguishing aldoses from ketoses is descr. Keywords
