Determination of moisture in single-cell protein utilising photoacoustic spectroscopy in the near-infrared region

Abstract
The determination of moisture in single-cell protein utilising photoacoustic spectroscopy and measurements at 1.9 and 1.55 µm is described. Some control of the particle-size range of samples is found to be necessary and linear calibration graphs are obtained with a relative standard deviation of 0.04 over the moisture range of about 0–12%m/m. The results obtained using photoacoustic spectroscopy are compared with those obtained using a low resolution nuclear magnetic resonance technique.
