Abstract
Channeling experiments have been performed on MgO single crystalsimplanted with 30‐keV Pt ions at room temperature. After annealing at temperatures above 900 °C an angular dependence of the backscattered yield from the Pt atoms was observed with a critical angle substantially larger than that of the host crystal. This result was attributed to the formation of coherent Pt precipitates, and a confirmation was obtained by x‐ray diffraction. Reasonable agreement between measured and calculated angular yield curves is reached assuming stacking faults and mosaic spread as predominant defects in the Pt precipitates. Keywords
