Morphology and systematics of some rooted cheilostome Bryozoa

Abstract
The colony growth and structure of five ‘sand fauna’ species of cheilostome Bryozoa, all of which have been observed or inferred to possess anchoring rootlets, are described. The morphology of these forms is compared with some systematically related species which are not specifically adapted to ‘sand fauna’ environments. One new genus, Parastichopora, and two new species, Parastichopora vanna and Mucropetraliella cotyla, are introduced.
