Abstract

The taxonomy and nomenclature of Durvillaea spp. are reviewed. Recognized are 4 spp., D. potatorum (Labillardiere) Areschoug, D. antarctica (Chamisso in Choris) Hariot, D. willana Lindauer and D. chathamensis sp. nov. Evidence shows that in almost all cases descriptions of other species represent different forms of D. antarctica, a highly plastic species.
