Abstract
The following facts on amniotic fluid of human beings, sheep, buffalo and goat were found: vol. increases during pregnancy; the reaction of human fluid is slightly alkaline, that of goat changes. Specific wt. 1.01, osmotic pressure 7.35-8.54. Dry residues 0.07-296 mg% (ash 20%.) Whole N content increases during pregnancy (before average 103, during pregnancy 186 mg.%). Non protein-N increases corresponding (47.2 resp. 143 mg%.) Both values are lower in human beings. There is no difference between empty and fetus-containing amnion content, which opposes the view that amniotic fluid consists chiefly of fetal urine. While estrone, estriol and ketosteroids could be found in amniotic fluid, no progesterone was detected; the occurrence of pregnandiol is probable. There is no influence by fetal sex on hormone content. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
