Abstract
We present a generalized Einstein theory to predict the thermodynamic properties of planar surfaces and microcrystallites which Nishioka et al. have obtained from numerical normal mode calculations. An important aspect of our model is that it identifies the important physical features governing the structure of the vibrational free energy as a function of microcrystallite size. Keywords
