Abstract
An investigation into the dynamic balance of Chesapeake Bay waters is carried out by means of a two-dimensional, plan view numerical model. The results of this investigation show that neither the Coriolis force nor the advective terms in the governing vertically integrated equations can be neglected without changing the tidal dynamics and circulation patterns of this Bay. Also, a bottom friction coefficient of 0.0025 produces the most realistic simulations of observed tidal data.
