Abstract
Field studies were conducted in northern Tamaulipas, Mexico in 1991 and 1992 to determine the effectiveness of POST applications of primisulfuron and nicosulfuron on shattercane control in corn. Primisulfuron at 15 g/ha and nicosulfuron at 30 g/ha were the minimal doses required for shattercane control. Both herbicides applied on 5- to 9-leaf shattercane provided excellent (> 90%) control 35 d after application. No corn injury was evident with any herbicide and rates evaluated. Untreated check plots sustained 30 to 56% of yield reduction as compared to herbicide treatment plots.
