Abstract
Stuart''s gastroenteritis paracolon Aerobacter. biotype 32011, and related bio types, were subjected to antigenic analysis and comparison with normal A. cloacae strains. 17 cultures were examined and 12 somatic antigenic sero types were established. Biotype 32011 was represented by 9 strains and of these 8 contained distinct somatic antigens. 4 cultures (32011) represented strains obtained from a single epidemic and in this group, 3 distinct somatic antigens were demonstrated. One of the 32011 cultures showed somatic identity with a normal A. cloacae strain. A high degree of flagellar antigen interrelationship was demonstrated in the p. Aerobacter group and diphasic variation was demonstrated in both paracolon and A. cloacae cultures. Exptl. results suggest p. Aerobacter strains to be variants of A. cloacae and that future epidemiological studies can profitably use the antigenic system of classification. Keywords
