Abstract
This paper presents a solution to the small-deflection problem of the uniformly loaded rectangular plate with all edges clamped, when the latter are subjected to uniform tensile or compressive forces in the plane of the plate. Since an exact solution to the problem is hardly possible, the Marcus method was used for the approximate solution of the biharmonic equation, subject to the conditions of zero slope and deflection at the boundary. Deflections and moments are presented for a square plate with four particular values of tensile end load, and for the rectangular plate with seven length-breadth ratios and with one value of compressive end load. Keywords
