Abstract
The author argues that the amount of circulation controlled by, and number of papers owned by, major newspaper firms does not provide adequate measures of economic concentration. The study measures the national newspaper market and thirty local markets using various concentration ratios and finds that all markets surpass the levels of concentration normally associated with monopoly. Keywords
