Abstract
For missiles producing clean cavities after water entry the cavity development is shown by theory to depend significantly only on: entry angle, an effective mass, and a Froude number based on the nose-flat diameter. A method is outlined for estimating pressures in closed, almost-steady cavities, from cavity geometry. Data from application of these methods to water-entry records of models are given. Influence of effective mass was small. The pressures in steady cavities were estimated as 0.5 to 1.3 atmospheres. Keywords
