The Effects of Isosorbide Dinitrate On Coronary Vascular Resistance

Abstract
The effects of isosorbide dinitrate (ISDN) and pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) on coronary blood flow were investigated in anesthetized dogs utilizing the Shipley-Wilson Rotameter. The blood flow into the left anterior descending coronary artery and the blood pressure in the left femoral artery were recorded on a Grass polygraph. ISDN and PETN administered intravenously and intraduodenally produced marked prolonged hypotensive effects and decreased coronary vascular resistance. The only significant difference in effects occurred upon intraduodenal administration. ISDN decreased coronary vascular resistance to a greater extent than PETN 80 minutes and 100 minutes after drug administration (P = 0.05).This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
