Abstract
Several points about the nature of maritime trade are illustrated with examples from eastern Indonesia. Among these are the influence of seasonal wind direction, the role of entrepôts, and the effect of fashion and other concepts of custom or law on trade. It is suggested that the prehistorian needs an awareness of such ethnographic and historical material to direct and control his imagination. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
