Abstract
Only a small fraction of the thoron (Em220) formed inside the bodies of dogs injected intravenously with soluble radiothorium (Th228) and mesothorium (Ra228) is exhaled. In dogs injected with Th228, the percent of exhaled thoron decreases with time and for doses less than 0.1 uc/kg may be expressed after the 1st day as[image]where t is the number of days after injection. In dogs injected with Ra228, the per cent exhaled thoron is even smaller. Hence, unlike the large escape of 3.8 day radon (Em222) which materially reduces the radiation dose to animals whose bones contain radium (Ra226), the small escape of thoron (Em220) has little effect in reducing the radiation dose to animals with skeletal deposits of radiothorium (Th228) .Keywords
