Abstract
Postopera-tive effects on pulmonary function and pulmonary arterial blood flow in operated lungs were studied in 18 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis by means of conventional pulmonary function tests and scintillation scanning of the lungs. Vital capacity and the partition ratio of pulmonary arterial blood flow in the operated lung decreased in comparison with the preoperative values. Vital capacity decreased more markedly than did pulmonary arterial blood flow in the operated lung in patients after thoracoplasty; it decreased less markedly or almost similarly in the patients who had lobectomy. The ventilation-perfusion in the operated lung were better in lobectomy than in thoracoplasty.
