Abstract
In polycrystalline materials, grain (or phase) boundaries usually meet as triplets, joined in a respective line, the ‘triple line’. Single boundaries can be represented as dislocation networks. At the triple line the dislocation balance has to be satisfied between all three boundaries. The subject of this paper is the condition for the branching of boundaries which is analogous to, and at the same time a generalization of, Frank's node condition for the branching of dislocations. Keywords
