Abstract
We describe some advances made in the effetive-potential Monte Carlo (EPMC) method. In particular, the effective potential has previously been evaluated by expanding the potential up to finite order; we show that the infinite series can be summed analytically. Previous work also included various forms of an isotropic approximation and the low-coupling approximation; we discard the former, but retain the latter. We compare our results for neon with previous work and find significant differences. We argue that the finite order EPMC method is now obsolete and that the present formalism supersedes it. Some computational aspects are also discussed. Keywords
