Abstract
Breath alcohol levels measured with the Alcolmeter, an inexpensive pocket-size device, correlated well with blood alcohol levels determined by gas chromatography in 16 of 18 patients. The breath analyzer was used in a variety of clinical situations and proved useful in avoiding negative reactions to initiation of disulfiram therapy; detecting and managing intoxicated patients; monitoring outpatient alcoholics; screening for alcohol misuse in patients on methadone maintenance and screening for alcohol problems during preemployment physical examinations.
