Abstract
Unsymmetricity of diffraction patterns in the meridional plane is discussed. In optical systems having a large F number, the unsymmetricity appears clearly in the diffraction patterns. Even in the aberration-free optics, the point of maximum intensity does not coincide with the geometrical focus, but is situated between the pupil plane and the geometrical focus. Keywords
