Abstract
A method, originally due to Fletcher, of calculating the properties of slow wave structures consisting of arrays of parallel conductors is developed. An error in Fletcher's work is corrected and a table of numerical values is presented by means of which the characteristic admittance of a single rectangular conductor in an array of similar conductors may readily be determined. The application of the method to particular structures is considered and expressions for the dispersion characteristics, input impedances and beam coupling impedances for the Karp structure, interdigital line and tape helix are derived. In the case of the tape helix a comparison is made between calculated and observed values of coupling impedances, the agreement being quite good. Keywords
