The On-line Equipment Limit Monitoring Facility Of The Ontario Hydro Data Acquisition And Computer System

Abstract
To keep pace with growing system complexity, Ontario Hydro placed a Data Acquisition and Computer System (DACS) in- service on June 11, 1976, at its system Control Centre. The facility monitors over 2,800 status points and 2,400 analog points every two seconds and presents this information on CRTs and a system mimic diagram. in addition to this constantly updated picture of the power system, the Control Supervisors are provided with a set of software packages to assist them in achieving a secure and economical operating pattern. To assist the Control Supervisor in preserving the system's security, an Equipment Limit Monitoring (ELM) facility was provided to determine if the Bulk Electricity System (BES.) equipment is being operated within ampacity limits both on a continuous basis and in the face of contingencies.Keywords
