SUPERCONDUCTING AND BULK MAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF AMORPHOUS La80-xSmxAu20 ALLOYS

Abstract

We present the results of measurements of bulk magnetic and supreconducting properties in amorphous LaSmAu alloys obtained by liquid quenching. The magnetic data are compatible with a nearly trivalent state of Sm in the bulk. In contrast, the very strong depression of the superconducting transition in the dilute alloys suggests a Kondo or intermediate valence behaviour
