Absence of Diffusion in Dynamics of Extended Waves in Mesoscopic Media
Abstract
Measurements of the nonexponential decay of pulsed microwave transmission through random dielectric media demonstrate the limitations of the diffusion model of transport of temporally coherent extended waves. The decreasing decay rate of transmission observed is due to a nearly gaussian distribution of coupling of quasinormal electromagnetic modes to free space at the sample surfaces. The peak and width of this distribution scale nearly as 1/L^2.Keywords
