Abstract
The polarisation of molecular line radiation following threshold electron impact excitations is discussed in detail. Existing theories are summarised and the validity of various approaches to simplify the problem are assessed. A detailed comparison between experiment and theory is made for a number of lines of the Lyman and Werner systems of H2 and it is shown that good agreement is obtained when known depolarising effects are allowed for. Keywords
