Abstract
Dogs, cats and rabbits were subjected to unilateral nephrectomy. Following recovery from operation, they were sensitized with horse serum and, after an interval of 3 weeks, the remaining kidney was removed. Adequacy of sensitization was demonstrated by induction of anaphylactic shock shortly before or after the 2d nephrectomy. The kidney removed after sensitization was found to have the same DO activity as that examined before admn. of horse serum. This was true not only of sensitized animals, but also of those who were in anaphylactic shock at the time the 2d kidney was removed. Various tissues of normal and horse serum-sensitized guinea pigs contained uniformly minute amts. of DO. The enzyme activity was measured by determining the mg., histamine inactivated/g. tissue in 24 hrs. under standardized conditions. Histamine was measured by the isolated guinea pig terminal ileum method with an avg. error of =[plus or minus]=9.8%.Keywords
