Abstract
Electronic stopping cross sections were measured for 175- to 840-keV 7Li projectiles in liquid organic substances belonging mostly to the series of 1-chloro alkanes, 1-bromo alkanes, carboxylic acids, amines and ketones. Analysis of the data gives the stopping cross sections of the characteristic molecular groups of these molecules. In this way the stopping cross section of 1 molecule is the sum of the stopping cross sections of its molecular groups. Together with the contributions of bonds to the stopping cross section and the values for other moleculer groups, both presented in an earlier paper, it is possible to evaluate the stopping cross sections for a large number of organic molecules in the liquid state. The relative accuracy of this procedure is 1-2% as demonstrated by a comparison between experimental and calculated stopping cross sections for more complex organic compounds. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
