Abstract
A systematic study to optimize the image in real optical systems, by fitting the filter transmission function on the exit pupil to different polynomial types is developed. The systems we have treated, whose residual aberrations are larger than the tolerance values, could be carried to tolerance by the use of an adequate filter, making the Strehl ratio higher than 0·8. The influence of the apodization filter on the optical transfer function is also studied. Keywords
