Abstract
The diffusion constants determined within the pH stability regions were: Ovalbumin 7.76, CO hemoglobin 6.90, serum albumin 6.45, gliadin 6.72, eryth-rocruorin 1.96, lactoglobulin (pH 5.0) 7.18 and lacto-globulin (pH 9.5) 6.78 [CHI] 10-7 c.g.s. The influence of concn. and acidity was investigated. The refractometric method used (Lamm, Z. Physikal. Chem. A 138, 313. (1928) and A 143, 177, (1929)) gives the diffusion process with sufficient accuracy to enable conclusions to be drawn regarding the uniformity of the proteins. With a statistical method of calculation the concn. gradient-curve of the diffusing substance was compared with the normal frequency curve. Departures from the normal curve were ascribed to non-uniformity.
